Project 5130 is a life-changing, experiential weekend retreat for teen guys. It is the start of a journey with other guys like yourself that will help you live at deeper levels of integrity and truth. The goal of the weekend is for you to come away equipped to break through the barriers of today’s culture so you can live courageously with more purpose, passion and power.
Do you ask yourself, “Why am I here? Does my life have meaning? What am I supposed to do?” You’re not alone. A Project 5130 weekend will help you understand your purpose and live more in tune with God’s mission for your life.
What gives you energy? What drives you? For some guys those are easy questions, but for many of us the answer is out of reach. Project 5130 is designed to allow you to get out of your head and into your heart to find your passion.
Every guy wants to feel powerful in some way whether that be on a sports field, in the classroom, or somewhere else. Too often we think we don't have what it takes. You will come away from a Project 5130 weekend with a confidence that God has equiped you with great power.
Through a series of carefully crafted activities, you will explore areas of your life like
"made me look at my life differently"
This weekend was so great for me, it really made me look at my life differently and allowed me to take the step from being a confused boy, into a man living for Christ.
"one of the most eye opening experiences"
Project 5130 was one of the most eye opening experiences that I ever had. It brought out so many things in me that I never knew I had, and brought me so close to the lord. Not in a million years did I think that one little weekend retreat would change my perceptions on how to live for the better. This retreat is perfect for teens and men of any age. I would love to see this little retreat grow nation wide. It is one of the most effective ways to let the Lord into men’s hearts.
"it is a safe place ... no one is going to judge"
People are always making excuses. That's what the world is -- a bunch of excuses. No one looks at what really is and gives the straight answer. Making excuses is just lying to yourself. A big part of this weekend is accepting responsibility for your actions -- plain and simple. That is easy to do here because it is a safe place, a safe container. The public is not a safe place. Society is not safe. Project 5130 is the one place where we know it is a safe place to talk because no one is going to judge.
"It's a life-changing experience"
I went [on a Project 5130 weekend] because I was at a point in my life that I needed help and Fred told me, “It's a life-changing experience. Dude, go!” That's exactly what I tell everyone else. It is a life-changing experience. That's all you need to know.
"it couldn't have been any better"
I went on the initial weekend purely because I thought it was going to be a cool weekend at a house with all of my good friends. It turned out to be the complete opposite of what I thought and it couldn't have been any better.
"knowing you're not alone"
The stuff that goes on changes your life. It’s not just working on your stuff but hearing what other people have and knowing you're not alone. It's not just an experience about yourself but creating a brotherhood. That's the key part of the weekend for me - the brotherhood.
"I saw one of the participants change before my eyes"
So I go to this place and I only know a few other guys. I am very thankful I was on that particular weekend because I saw one of the participants change before my eyes. The experience of going is 10 times different than thinking about it and 10 times better.
The Illinois events are held at Dickson Valley Camp and Retreat Center in Newark, IL or Streator Baptist Camp in Streator, IL. The participants meet at a church in Aurora, IL and are transported by van to the event location.
The Texas events are held at Cramer Retreat Center in Spring, TX and participants typically meet at a local church before being transported to the retreat location.
Project 5130 derives its name from Psalm 51 and Psalm 130 which form the primary guiding principles. Reading these psalms, one understands that we are all imperfect people in need of God to touch our lives with grace and truth.
Every weekend is staffed by a mix of adults and youth who have all experienced similar weekends and desire to see other young men come to a deeper understanding of their God-given purpose, passion, and power. We also screen all adult staff with a professional background check.
Yes. There have been some participants who have experienced a Project 5130 weekend that would consider themselves agnostic or in the "I don't know" camp. Everyone can get something out of a 5130 weekend, but we acknowledge that lasting change can only come about through the power of God.
Truths from the Bible are used throughout the weekend to shed light on our lives as men, but you will not be preached at. A Project 5130 weekend is a safe place free from judgement.
Even if you don't consider yourself a Christian, please check us out. We would love to journey with you.
Project 5130 is not associated with any particular church or denomination. We desire to partner with churches, youth groups, and parachurch ministries to help teen guys on their journey to become the men God intended.
We believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments (66 books) as being the inspired word of God, completely inerrant in the original writings, and of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
We believe in one God, eternally existent in the three equally divine persons of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who is the creator of all things, and infinitely perfect in love, power, and knowledge.
We believe that humans are created in the image of God and designed to live in love and holiness, but all people are born separated from God because of our sin and justly deserve God's wrath.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man. He was sent by God the Father and lived a sinless life. Jesus assumed the judgment due sinners by dying in our place as a perfect, all-sufficient, and atoning sacrifice. He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will come again according to the Scriptures.
We believe that the salvation of man is wholly a work of God's grace and is not the work in any way of human deeds, goodness, or religious ceremony. God imputes His righteousness to those who repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
We believe in the indwelling presence and transforming power of the Holy Spirit, who gives to all believers a new life and a new calling to obedient service.
We believe that God's justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another. With God's Word, the Spirit's power, and fervent prayer, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil and lovingly make disciples among all people.
We believe in the future personal return and victorious reign of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge all people with justice and mercy, giving over the unbeliever to eternal condemnation and conscious separation from God, but receiving the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with Him in the new heaven and new earth.
